Amazing blog

This is an amazing blog by a local Birmingham photographer.  He has found some secret places and also ventured into places that I wish I had the courage to visit (like the old Ensley steel mill site).  Check it out:

River Dreams

This man paddled the Cahaba, and then continued to the Gulf of Mexico.   Then he made a documentary of his journey.  It's not out yet, as of July 2013, but should be soon:

Sadness

In the past couple of weeks we have lost some great paddlers in whitewater accidents, and also some good friends of mine were intimately involved in trying to rescue a rafting customer on the Lower Yough.  They were unable to save him.
It is particularly sad to me to ponder the loss of Shannon Christy, an elite paddler who died July 11th on the Great Falls of the Potomac during a practice run for the Great Falls Race.   She was only 24, in the prime of her life, and she was loved by many people I know.  Our community is greatly hurting from her loss.
Here is a video of the tribute to Shannon.
